Tire: SP Sport Maxx A1-A A/S
Category: Ultra High Performance All-Season
UTQG (treadwear): 260 A A
Contrary to the name, the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx A1-A A/S is not exactly, but pretty close to, the same tire as the also reviewed SP Sport Maxx A1 A/S. I'd call them cousins, but this tire being the better performing and better liked one. This is one of the better Original Equipment (OE) tires that I see, and overall I'd put it in the top 10 for Ultra High Performance All-Season tires. Nothing too special on the engineering front with these tires. They are made to handle high speeds and will even get you through light snow. In terms of OE applications, I have found these tires most often fitted to late model Infiniti G37x Sedan and drivers have been pretty pleased with the performance.
As I mentioned already, this is a good tire and performs well in most conditions. Find yourself in a blizzard with packed snow and you'll want a dedicated snow tire, but I've found that the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx A1-A A/S does a pretty good job in light snow and outperforms many other all season tires in this performance segment. Drivers seem to get around 50,000 miles out of a set, so I'd call that a good value for an OE tire. I think a lot of people would buy another set to replace their worn out tires, but these tend to be on the more expensive side....which is probably why I'd recommend some other tires ahead of it. I think you can find better value for similar traction. However, if a sale comes along and these tires are competitive with others price-wise, they are not a bad way to go at all.
