Tire: Scorpion Verde
Category: Street/Sport Truck Summer
UTQG (treadwear): 400 AA A
The Pirelli Scorpion Verde is a specialized sport tire built for summer driving and made to be fitted to crossovers, sport utility vehicles, and light trucks. This tire is often used as an original equipment (OE) tire for the Porsche Macan, but can be found on many performance vehicles at this point. Typically OE tires are manufactured just to get cars off the lot, but in this case, the Scorpion Verde is a highly engineered tire and generally performs well. Unique in this segment is that this tire uses a silica tread compound that makes it a low rolling resistance tire, which helps increase fuel economy. Just as with all other summer tires, this one is not meant to be driven at near freezing temperatures (or below) or in ice/snow.
Being a relatively new tire, the Pirelli Scorpion Verde doesn't have a long track record from drivers. However, I've seen these tires fitted to both a Volvo XC90 and an Audi Q7, and both drivers have come away with a decent impression of the tire. I wouldn't say that this tire ranks towards the top of the pack for the performance segment. I would likely rank it much lower...somewhere in the bottom half. But that is more due to the fact that this is a competitive segment and the tires ahead of it are definitely of high quality. No longevity data yet, but we hope to update this review once we get a few more reports in from the field. Overall I'd say this is an okay choice for a replacement tire if you can get a good price on it. There are definitely other tires out there that perform better.
