Tire: Scorpion Ice & Snow
Category: Light Truck/SUV Performance Winter / Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated
The Pirelli Scorpio Ice & Snow light truck tire is one the best reviewed tires on the market in this performance category. It has been developed for luxury crossover and SUVs on the market, but also has application specifically modern muscle cars such as the Chrysler 300C, Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and Chevy Camaro. One of the main aspects of winter tires is that they remain flexible at lower temperatures to improve grip, and the Scorpion Ice & Snow utilizes a unique rubber tread compound to accomplish this. Outside of that, this is just a well designed, solid tire from Pirelli. These tires also meet the industry standard for severe snow service and Pirelli recommends that you only install these in sets of four due to their outstanding snow and ice traction.
Overall drivers are very impressed with the traction of these tires on ice and snow, and perform very well on high altitude mountain passes.. But most have also found them to be very competent in rain and on dry pavement as well. Versus all-season tires, you'll notice an uptick in road noise, but that is very normal for winter tires. In this case, think of noise equaling traction. One of the more impressive aspects is that they'll probably last you at least 60,000 miles, which is great for a performance-oriented snow tire. I do know people that run these in year round, and I don't recommend that, but these tires are very durable and they could easily last from early fall to late spring without having excessive wear from warmer temperatures. So essentially this is probably the top of the line truck and SUV tire on the market today and if you want that type of performance and snow/ice traction, it's hard to steer you away from these.
