Tire: Pilot Exalto PE2
Category: Ultra High Performance Summer
UTQG (treadwear): 240 A A
The Pilot Exalto PE2 is good tire in the higher performance segment from Michelin. This is an interesting tire from a technology standpoint, and to a lesser degree that it is for use on smaller, low profile wheels. It utilizes a lot of cool engineering to give it a longer life (Life Maximized Adherence compound), better traction (Variable Contact Patch tread design) and a more rigid internal structure (Banded At Zero high tensile steel belts). I'm not really sure it's all super relevant to know in terms of this review, but it's awesome to know that Michelin put a lot of time an effort into this tire. Like all other summer tires, it is not intended to be driven in snow/ice or at near freezing temperatures.
For a performance tire, you won't find too many that can meet the longevity (with consistent traction) of this tire. I've had drivers report getting over 80,000 miles out of a set under good conditions and with frequent rotating. The other plus is that customers also find these to be a little bit more quiet than other summer high performance tires. On the downside, these are usually pretty pricey for a set, but I think in this instance you probably get your money out of them. So if you're looking to keep some good traction while not replacing tires too often, I think these are worth a look. I'd say they're perfect for someone that drives a sports car, yet still has a longer daily commute.
