Tire: Premier A/S
Category: Grand Touring All-Season
UTQG (treadwear): 640 A A
The Grand Touring All-Season segment for Michelin is kind of a crowded field, and the Premier A/S seems to just be another solid horse in the stable. This is a pretty cool tire and its billed as using some innovative technology -Michelin's Total Performance. What you'll find embedded in the tire compound is silica and sunflower oil, which helps the tire maintain traction in wet and cold environments. In theory, you should achieve very good wet grip due to the deep rain grooves. Michelin even says that you should get decent light snow traction. Not many manufacturers will say that about their all-season tires.
Reviews are overall positive for the Premier A/S. It's a relatively new tire, so we don't have a ton of mileage data, but the tests show that this tire stacks up well against others in the performance category, with high marks for wet traction (the theory holds!) and hydroplane resistance. I've had a number of people note how quiet this tire is, so if you do a lot of commuting or taking long road trips, that factor would hold some relevance. If you can find a decent deal on these tires, and you happen to deal with a lot of wet weather, I see no reason not to recommend these tires. While we don't have up-to-date info on how long they'll last, I would predict that they will be closely in line with other Grand Touring tires from Michelin, most of which get up to 100,000 miles. We will update this information as it becomes available.
