Tire: Pilot Sport PS2 ZP
Category: Max Performance Summer
UTQG (treadwear): 220 AA A
The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP is an aggressive and relatively small volume tire in their lineup. This tire was originally introduced as an original equipment tire (OE) for the BMW 3 series cars when equipped with sport package. Over the years, Michelin has expanded the use of this tire in OE applications and recently it was picked as the premier tire for the 2009 Corvette ZR1. As you might imagine for a tire used on a ZR1, it has a lot of cool technology including Michelin's own Variable Contact Patch to make sure the tire maintains as much traction with the road surface as possible. This is also a run flat tire, and it incorporates reinforced rubber zero pressure sidewall inserts..should be good for 50 miles on a flat. As a summer tire, it is not intended to be driven in ice or snow, or at near freezing temperatures.
Most drivers find this tire to be extremely capable and it will absolutely provide great wet and dry traction. On the downside, as you might expect, there is a bit of a trade off in that you'll likely see less than 50,000 miles out of a set. In terms of this performance category, this tire will probably provide a little bit better ride comfort than competitors, however I've had numerous complaints of increased road noise after 30,000 miles or so, which is not uncommon for run flat tires. Unless your vehicle requires run flats, I think there are better options on the market in this category.
