Tire: Pilot Sport 3
Category: Max Performance Summer
UTQG (treadwear): 320 AA A
The Pilot Sport 3 from Michelin is an aggressive, performance oriented summer only tire that has been developed to be used as an original equipment (OE) tire for a variety of sports cars on the market. This tire is based on the expertise derived from the 24-hour Le Mans race. This tire also happens to be eco-friendly and provides one of the best efficiency levels available in this performance category. So the net effect here is that this tire will help you improve your fuel economy, while still providing great grip in dry and wet. Seeing as this is a summer tire, it is not intended to be driven in ice/snow or at near freezing temperatures.
Drivers of sports cars, or just drivers that are looking for more grip are quickly becoming fans of the this relatively new to the market tire. I'd place it in the bottom half of the top 10 personally, because I think it really does have great grip. Perhaps not the best, but helping in the fuel economy department is always nice. I've had a few people point out to me that the wet traction on this tire oftentimes seems better than it's dry traction. Seems counterintuitive, but this is a very highly engineered tire. Unfortunately, these tires seem to wear fairly quickly, which is a common complaint against OE tires. I'd expect to see a little bit north of 50,000 miles out of a set before you'll need to start thinking about replacements.
