Tire: Ultra Grip SUV RunOnFlat
Category: Light Truck/SUV Performance Winter / Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated
The Goodyear Ultra Grip SUV RunOnFlat is a specialty winter tire that is a member of the Goodyear Wrangler family of tires that have been developed for light trucks, crossovers, and SUVs that are looking for competent ice and snow traction. These run flat tires will also allow you to travel up to 50 miles at 50 mph in the event of a puncture, so these tires are ideal for those adventures that might take you off the pavement and on back roads. The coolest part of this tire is that the tread design uses 3D Bubble Blade sipes that can actually lock together to aid traction and improve handling. So that means without the use of metal studs, these tires will bit into the road surface, including on ice and snow to make sure you can get and keep your car moving. As you might imagine for this winter SUV tire, it does meet the industry standard for severe snow service. Goodyear, also recommends that you install these tires in sets of four. With these tires only coming in one 18" wheel size currently, it's been a big challenge to find anybody that runs these tires. I'll be updating this review after I can track down more information. Though right now, I can at least say that these tires cross between the Wrangler and Ultra Grip families, which are both traditionally strong tire categories. I don't think you'll get hurt by these, but since there are so many other tires in this performance category, I might suggest you look elsewhere until this tire can establish a track record.
