Tire: Eagle Ultra Grip GW-3 RunOnFlat
Category: Performance Winter / Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated
The Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW-3 RunOnFlat is, as you might guess, a run flat version of the regular Eagle Ultra Grip GW-3 that we have reviewed here as well. This tire is no more common than that tire, in that it's only available in a few sizes. Similarly to normal GW-3, this RunOnFlat version was developed and gear towards European high speed winter driving. Being a run flat tire, that allows it to be driven for 50 miles at 50 mph in the event of a puncture. Goodyear recommends that you only install these tires on vehicles that originally came with run flat tires, and that you only install them in sets of four due to their unique handling characteristics. These tires are built to meet the industry standard for severe snow service, and have a directional tread pattern that helps your vehicle resist hydroplaning on wet and slush covered roads. Drivers have found this tire to be very similar to the regular Eagle Ultra Grip GW-3, so I'd suggest hitting that review for all the gritty details. Just keep in mind that for the most part, run flat tires will give you slightly more road noise than a regular tire due to their bolstered internal structure.
