Tire: Assurance Fuel Max
Category: Passenger All-Season
UTQG (treadwear): 540 A B / 580 A A / 620 A B
The Assurance Fuel Max is a generally well liked tire that slots in around the middle of the pack in terms of passenger all season tires. It was developed by Goodyear for people that drive coupes, sedans, wagons, minivans, and crossovers that are looking for a tire with long life, and especially low rolling resistance to help obtain better fuel economy. This all season tire is able to traverse light snow, though generally most drivers would suggest you use a dedicated snow tire if you live in a climate that has lots of snowfall. This tire has a unique fuel economy enhancing tread compound that has three tread zones...two dry and one wet. It also has dual Aquachannel grooves that help evacuate water from the tire tread. Just as a note, the higher speed rated H-speed tires have spirally wrapped nylon to help them deal with the higher pressures that come along from increased speed.
So I'd say that generally, the reviews from drivers on these tires are positive. I mean, I would definitely rank it in the top ten for the performance category. I think what people are most impressed with is the fuel economy increase that comes with the tire, but unfortunately that also means you're going to sacrifice some traction to achieve that. I know a good number of drivers that have gotten 75,000 miles out of a set, so I think that is attainable. Some note that this is a noisy tire after it gets to the midpoint of its life, but I wouldn't say they are loud compared to other tires on the market. So if you are looking for a solid low rolling resistance tire that is going to get you from A to B over many miles, I think this tire might be one to keep on your radar. Just don't expect to be lighting up the track or running through many inches of snow though!
