Tire: Primacy Alpin PA3
Category: Performance Winter / Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated
Out of the gate, I'll say that this tire is not exactly mainstream in terms of winter tires. Right now, the Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 is only produced in a handful of sizes, though ranging from 15" - 17" there are not a lot of widths offered. That being said, this is a decent offering, though I would recommend at least looking at the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 if you are married to this performance category and manufacturer, it's a better tire overall. That being said, there are definitely some great qualities about the Primacy Alpin PA3. It is a low rolling resistance tire, meaning that it will give you slightly better fuel economy compared to others in the category. Also this tire has a sunflower oil enriched Helio Compound, which very unique, just generally to the tire segment. Just the same with other winter tires, Michelin recommends that you only put these on your car in sets of 4 tires.
Drives note that you'll get around 40,000 miles out of a set, which is very standard for this performance category. I think the traction qualities of this tire were once very good, but it has been passed by many other winter performance tires that are just better. Innovation is a good thing, and I think that's why there are many better offerings on the market today. The Primacy Alpin PA3 will still provide you with good snow and ice traction, and if you can find a decent deal on them, I'd say they are definitely worth a look. Money notwithstanding, it would definitely be worth it to shop around.
