Tire: Ultra Grip Ice WRT
Category: Studless Ice and Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated
Goodyear offers some technology in the winter tire arena called Winter Reactive Technology which is found on the Ultra Grip Ice WRT tire. This is one of the more advanced winter tires on the market, and in the performance category. I definitely feel with the WRT, that this is a top three tire -so in other words...among the best. These tires were developed to fit across the wide spectrum of passenger vehicles and can be found to fit wheels from 16" to 19". The Ultra Grip Ice WRT uses a directional tread design with a large central groove to channel away all the slush and snow in the path of the tire, vastly improve the tire's footprint quality and traction abilities. Due to the impressive winter traction, Goodyear recommends that you only install these tires in sets of four.
As mentioned earlier in the review, this is a very well liked tire by drivers. This tire has proven to be reliable in all sorts of adverse winter conditions. Even on front wheel drive vehicles in the mountains, I've had many people compliment the tire on it's ability to stay planted and keep traction. Even in dry and warmer weather, drivers have found that these tires are still relatively as quiet as all season tires and still provide about similar amounts of traction as all seasons. Even with the aggressive tread design and winter compound, I think you'll likely see around 40,000 miles out of a set, which is about the norm in my experience for the performance category.
