Tire: ExtremeWinterContact LT
Category: Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not Rated
This is a solid low volume winter truck/SUV tire that Continental produces. Currently it is among only two other tires from them that is specifically built for winter and made for heavy duty trucks, SUVS, vans, and even commercial vehicles. It is available in two 17" wheel sizes and can also be had in heavy duty Load Range D/E sizes. The ExtremeWinterContact LT tire is pretty advanced, utilizing a high-tech tread compound that will remain flexible under freezing temperatures thus increasing traction on ice and snow. This tire meets the industry standard for severe snow service, and Continental recommends you only install this tire in sets four due to it's handling capabilities.
What we've found with these tires is that they'll perform very well under adverse winter conditions. You can be pulling a trailer, or going up a steep hill, these will likely get the job done without much drama even in deep powder snow. It's a little hard to say, though, how long they'll last typically since most of the people that buy them are using the tires while hauling stuff around, or pulling trailers, or on commercial duties. I think it's safe to say that they'll give you between 20,000 - 30,000 miles, but it's hard to be much more accurate than that. They have such an aggressive winter tread compound that they'll likely wear a bit faster than other tires in the performance category.
