Tire: Blizzak WS70
Category: Studless Ice & Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated
The Blizzak WS70 represents the fourth generation of Bridgestone WinterBiter tires that have been designed to provide winter traction and control when ice and snow are on the road. The WS70 has a size range from 15" to 18", which means it will fit a wide range of passenger vehicles. It utilizes a two compound tread, which is relatively unique for the performance segment. Bridgestone has layered their own NanoPro-Tech silica Tube Multicell on top of their regular winter compound. This tube multicell contains thousands of tiny tubes and cells to wick away water like a Under Armor compression shirt. This is also very flexible, which allows the tire to grip incredibly well under cold conditions. The WS70 meets the industry standards for severe snow requirements and has two wear indicators integrated into the tread, for 50 and 10 percent tread life remaining. As with other winter tires, Bridgestone recommends you only install these tires in sets of four due to their traction capabilities.
Compared with other tires in this performance category, I would definitely say that this tire falls within my top 5. In addition to the great traction, drivers have found this tire has great tread life as well and will in many cases get you over 50,000 miles out of a set under normal winter conditions. Drivers also note that these are also pretty quiet and offer a good ride, though maybe not is good as a nice high quality all season tire. So I think if you are looking for a good long life aggressive winter tire, and you are able to shell out a few bucks, I would put this tire on your radar. You'll likely pay a bit more, but due to the good longevity that you'll have, I think your money will be well spent.
