Tire: ExtremeWinterContact
Category: Studless Ice & Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not Rated
This is an all around winter tire that Continental has been making for years and years. It is well suited for pretty much all types of passenger vehicles, from coupes and sedans, to minivans and trucks. The ExtremeWinterContact is designed with an advanced, and high strength winter tread. This allows the tire to stay flexible in freezing temperatures to increase snow and ice traction. You'll notice that this tire has the mountain/snowflake symbol, meaning that it meets the industry's severe snow service requirements. Just as a safety note, Continental says you should only install these tires in sets of fours.
This being a winter tire, it has no treadwear rating. Generally, winter tires will wear out more quickly and comparably priced all season tires. Just a fact of life for getting much much better winter traction. You'll likely see 40,000 miles out of a set, so depending on your driving habits, that'll probably equate to a good number of winter driving seasons. Most drivers report that you'll get excellent traction, even on packed snow and your ice traction is also pretty good. I think for the category, it's not the best choice, but definitely a solid option depending on how much you want to spend.
