Tire: AmeriTrac TR
Category: On-/Off-Road All-Terrain
UTQG (treadwear): 500 A A/B
The AmeriTrac TR is a very close cousin to the highway version of the AmeriTrac that we have reviewed previously. So what you'll find here as to differences between the tires are that this tire will work a bit better off road, but won't give you quite as many miles out of a set. The TR is typically used as an original equipment tires, so most of the time when you see this tire, its when a truck or SUV is coming off the new car lot. Currently, it's only being made for a 17" wheel, so you are a bit limited in terms of sizing.
Most drivers report getting up to 90,000 miles out of a set, though I would expect less than that out of normal use. In terms of the on/off road category, this will be one of the more quite tires, but that is pretty much just a function of it's lack of traction compared to other tires you could buy. When I think about tires in this performance category, if you are looking for a tire with superior traction built for both on and off road, I'd recommend you look elsewhere. However, if you do want to keep road noise down while getting a high number of miles out of a set, then I'd say the AmeriTrac TR would be worth looking at.
