Tire: Potenza RE92
Category: High Performance All-Season
UTQG (treadwear): 160 A A
This tire is one of the most popular Original Equipment tires on the market for sports cars, and other sporty vehicles. It was mainly designed to provide a smooth all-season ride with minimal road noise, while maintaining high quality handling characteristics. The RE92 uses a symmetric tread design with interlocking tread blocks, both are pretty standard fare in terms of tire technology.
Considering the low treadwear rating, you might think this tire offers superior traction to others in the category...and you would be wrong. This tire is mainly a combination of mediocre handling (within the performance category) and poor tread life. At most, expect to get around 30,000 miles out of a set of these tires. Car manufactures don't like to spend a lot of money on tires that come on a car from the factory, so if you see these on your new ride, just be aware that you'll have to shell out some dollars for new tires in relatively short order. If you're looking for replacement tires, I would suggest looking elsewhere. There are many other choices that will give you a better combination of handling and treadlife for the price.
