Tire: Potenza RE050A Pole Position
Category: Max Performance Summer
UTQG (treadwear): 280 AA A
The Pole Position series of the Potenza RE050A lineup brings together some different technology to create a great combination of wet and dry performance. At its core, this tire was developed to provide similar wet and try traction to the original Potenza RE050A, but with better stability. It was designed to be used on sports cars, sport coupes, and sporty sedans. Just with other summer tires, it is not meant to be used in snow/ice or at near freezing temperatures.
Bridgestone utilized some cool technology to enhance the stability of the Pole Postion tire versus the RE050A. They used UNI-T technology along with a tread compound that has a higher silica content at 90%. The Pole Positon also incorporates wide tread grooves that pump water away during wet conditions. With the higher treadwear rating, not only will these tires give your vehicle better stability versus the basic RE050A, but you should also expect to get more miles out of a set. Many drivers have reported getting 40,000 miles by the time the will need to be replaced, which is exceptional considering the aggressive tire compound. I think one knock against the tire, would be that they are quite a bit nosier on the road than other offerings in this performance category. Drivers should also anticipate a bit harder of a ride versus other tires as well, but I think both factors are probably worth it, considering the performance and treadwear for the price.
