Tire: Radial T/A
Category: Performance All-Season
UTQG (treadwear): 400 A B
First off, this is a really diverse tire. It can be fit to a wide range of automobiles including light trucks, muscle cars, and even kit cars. It has the look of a classic muscle car tire, with its low profile and white letters on the sidewall. The Radial T/A was designed to provide year round traction and is designed to fit smaller wheels. In fact, BFGoodrich only makes this tire to fit 14" and 15" wheels.
It has been manufactured with a symmetric tread pattern featuring variable groove angle geometry all in an effort to produce a low noise tire with predictable handling. An interesting part of this tire deals with the usage of BFGoodrich's g-Wedge technology, essentially creating a sidewall that is more stable than the most others in the market for this performance category.
As I mentioned previously, this tire has a very diverse range of applications...which in turn makes it hard to quantify what kind of life you are likely to see out of a set. On light trucks and SUVs, I think you could very easily expect to see 60,000 miles out of a set under normal usage. It seems that drivers of muscle cars report getting far fewer miles out though. This is probably just due to driving style/habits more than anything else. Sometimes it can take a number of years to gather up enough miles to warrant a new set, but numerous drivers report very little tire degradation (cracking, splitting, etc) even when these tires are on a car for 10 years. Thats a pretty good sign if you have an old muscle car sitting around that only makes it out on the street when the sun is shining and the weather is perfect.
