Tire: CR227
Category: Grand Touring Summer
UTQG (treadwear): 200 A A
This is a bit of a unique tire category with Grand Touring (not a performance tire) combined with it being a summer tire. Most non-performance tires are sold as All Season tires. Why this is the case is because Avon is a manufacturer out of Britain, and in that part of the world, the climate is typically very mild. Probably the most interesting aspect of this tire is that it was designed for Rolls Royce and Bentley luxury sedans. Being a summer tire means that this tire is not intended to be driven through ice/snow, or at near freezing temperatures.
The tread design of the CR227 was devised specifically to reduce road noise, while maintaining a positive steering response. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise as the tires were developed to be used on luxury cars. Even though these are not performance tires, they have also been engineered to maintain their stability at high speeds while cornering. Many of the roads in Europe (ie Germany) have much higher speed limits than the United States, so high speed cornering stability is very important. So if you're looking for a tire that can take high speeds, remain comfortable and compliant, and will less road noise...this might be what you're looking for.
